Regain System — Bloodborne
Regain System — Game mechanics, Bloodborne. When to counterattack, how your weapon affects HP recovery, and the exceptions that prevent rally.

Use the orange window
After taking a hit, the orange portion shows HP that can still be recovered by attacking. It generally starts shrinking after about 2.5 seconds; the exact duration depends on the enemy attack.
Move to the target's flank or rear before striking back. If the enemy continues an uninterruptible combo, using a vial after repositioning is better than forcing a rally attempt.
Compare base values at +10
| Weapon | Base rally |
|---|---|
| Hunter Axe | 125 HP |
| Whirligig Saw | 120 HP |
| Ludwig's Holy Blade | 110 HP |
| Saw Cleaver | 55 HP |
These are base values: each move applies its own rally multiplier. Attack speed also matters; a high value per hit does not guarantee the best recovery per second.
Check the exceptions
- Firearm shots do not produce rally. Final hits during an enemy's death animation can still produce it.
- Bolt damage prevents rally against Paarl and the Abhorrent Beast; fire prevents it against the Watchdog of the Old Lords, even with mixed damage.
- Weapon upgrades and certain gem effects increase recovery potential.
