Usage · effects and conditions (wiki)
Poison Knives are very similar to Throwing Knives in how they are used. Their physical damage scales with strength and skill, and, while they are weaker than normal Throwing Knives, they cause poison to build up in the enemy. When enough poison builds up, the enemy begins to take damage over time from the Slow Poisoning status. You can hold up to 20 in your inventory. Each Poison Knife inflicts poison build-up on the target, but the amount is reduced by the enemy's poison resistance; some enemies need to be hit with more knives than others. When poisoned, the enemy will take damage over time. Once again, this can be reduced by the enemy's poison resistance; some enemies will take very little damage . Note that only the physical portion of the knives' damage scales; the poison damage is unaffected by your stats. Against some strong enemies, these knives are a life-saver. Once an enemy is poisoned, you are free to dodge or run away without attacking while it dies. In co-op with another player, coordinating knife usage can be very useful; by throwing Poison Knives together, you can poison an enemy much more quickly. This can also be useful to in conjunction with a weapon slotted with Murky Gems; the combination will help you build up the poison effect both from range and in melee. In PvP successfully poisoning another player will put pressure on them to use an Antidote or heal. This creates an opening for you to finish them off; keep up the pressure!
