Visceral Attacks — Bloodborne
Visceral Attacks — Game mechanics, Bloodborne. What actually affects visceral attacks: Skill, character level, thrust gems and runes.

Create an opening for a visceral attack
- A correctly timed shot during a parryable attack, or a charged R2 from behind, can stagger the target.
- Move in immediately and press R1 in front of or behind the target. Some large bosses instead require a body part to be broken.
- The animation protects the player. A normal attack against a staggered target also gains a bonus: compare both follow-ups for your stat distribution.
The stats that matter
| Factor | Effect |
|---|---|
| Main damage type | Thrust |
| Skill | Natural visceral scaling; reduced returns after 50 |
| Character level | Major threshold at 80; level-based scaling continues up to 200 |
| Niveau et AR de l’arme droite | Do not determine base visceral damage |
| Right-hand weapon gems | Bonuses that increase thrust damage improve visceral attacks |
Choose runes to match your needs
- Clawmark: visceral attack damage. Blood Rapture: recovery of a fixed amount of HP.
- Runes that restore bullets after a visceral attack help sustain a parry-based strategy.
- Heir increases echo gains, rather than the power of the hit. Certain weapon-specific effects and scaling gems can also affect visceral attacks.
