Effects · conditions and stacking (wiki)

The Clawmark Rune increases the damage of your Visceral attacks. Given that staggered foes already take double damage from other attacks, it isn't always particularly useful. The main benefits of Visceral attacks are the knockback that they can cause and the invincibility frames that they give you. In a crowd of foes, they are a lot safer than performing a normal attack as a follow-up. If you are using other Runes to augment your Visceral attacks, Clawmark could be a helpful bonus. Visceral attacks do good damage if your weapon isn't upgraded much or if your stats are still low. Once you have a maxed out weapon and appropriate stats, they tend to under-perform. They are, however, affected by damage multipliers like the Fool and Poorman gem effects, so using a Clawmark Rune can give them respectable damage with the correct gem effects. If you just want to deal a lot of damage but don't want to give up the Rune slots, consider using other attacks to follow up on a stagger instead.
