Afflicted Beggar

Quest overview

Choose his fate without sacrificing the chapel's refugees.

  • Reach the windmill balconies in the Forbidden Woods.
  • He disappears if you have not interacted with him before the blood moon.
  • Sending him to the chapel triggers the murder of its refugees.
  • The wiki reports a risk that he may become impossible to kill after his first victim in version 1.09.

Meet him on the balcony

Forbidden Woods · windmill balcony, near the route to the Cannon

Before the blood moon

  • Find the Beggar on the windmill balconies.
  • Choose his destination with the consequences of the following two branches in mind.

2 Pungent Blood Cocktails when you name a refuge.

Branch: protect the chapel by choosing the clinic

Forbidden Woods → Iosefka's Clinic

When choosing his refuge

  • Direct him to the clinic, then reload the area.
  • The clinic transforms him into a small Celestial Emissary; speak to Imposter Iosefka for the reward for sending him there.

2 Beast Blood Pellets from Imposter Iosefka; the chapel's refugees remain safe from this Beggar.

Branch: fight him where you find him

Forbidden Woods · windmill balcony

Before he leaves

  • Striking him three times triggers his transformation into an Abhorrent Beast.
  • Defeat him to end his route without sending him to a refuge.

Beast rune, Beasthood bonus +50.

The wiki states that co-op partners cannot damage this NPC, even after his transformation.

Dangerous branch: murders at the chapel

Oedon Chapel

After sending him to the chapel

  • The documented order is: the old man, the old woman, Adella, the Chapel Dweller, then Arianna.
  • Speaking to him after each victim gives 3, 2, 2, 3 and 2 Beast Blood Pellets respectively.
  • After all his victims are dead, he disappears when the area reloads.

This branch trades the refugees' quests for consumables.

If he is the first refugee sent there, the Chapel Dweller dies. Do not choose this branch if you want to save the other characters.
